Tesla has been quiet about the Semi's exact specs for years. With mass production now officially underway at the dedicated Semi facility in Sparks, Nevada, the full spec sheet is finally out — and both trims are worth understanding in detail before you make a fleet decision.

Long Range —The 500-Mile Case

Long Range — The 500-Mile Case

The Long Range is the headline truck. 500 miles at full 82,000 lb gross combined weight — that's the number that changes fleet math on routes that diesel trucks have owned for decades.
The 822 kWh battery pack is the largest ever put in a production Class 8 truck. At 1.2 MW peak charging via Tesla's Megacharger MCS system, you can charge from near-empty to 80% in roughly 35 minutes close enough to a driver's mandatory 30-minute HOS break that the charging stop and rest stop become the same stop.
The tradeoff is weight. At 23,000 lbs curb weight, the Long Range leaves roughly 59,000 lbs of payload capacity at full legal GCW. That covers the vast majority of freight use cases — dry van, reefer, flatbed, and port drayage container work.
Fleet operators including WattEV (370 trucks), PepsiCo, DHL, ArcBest, Saia, and Mone Transport have all run the Long Range in real-world freight conditions. Every one of them has come in at or below Tesla's 1.7 kWh/mile efficiency target. ArcBest hit 1.55 kWh/mile over Donner Pass at 7,200 feet elevation. Mone Transport logged 1.64 kWh/mile across Texas and US-Mexico border routes.

Standard Range — The Regional Case

The Standard Range is the lighter, faster-charging option built for shorter dedicated routes and depot-based operations.
At ~19,000 lbs curb weight, it gives fleet operators roughly 63,000 lbs of payload capacity — a meaningful advantage for weight-sensitive freight. The 548 kWh pack gets you 325 miles at full GCW, which covers the majority of regional and last-mile dedicated freight corridors.
Charging tops out at 750 kW and hits 60% in about 30 minutes. For fleets running depot charging — like the Forum Mobility setups in Rancho Dominguez that QX Logistix, NICA, and Big F are all committed to — the Standard Range pencils out well on short, predictable drayage and regional runs.

ePTO — The Feature Fleet Operators Keep Asking About

Both trims come standard with ePTO (Electric Power Take-Off) up to 25 kW. This matters for fleet operators running liftgates, refrigeration units, hydraulic equipment, or any auxiliary power requirement at the job site or dock.
The ePTO draws from the main battery pack, which means it factors into your range calculations on a given route. For dedicated refrigerated freight — reefer units typically draw 5-8 kW continuously — the 25 kW headroom is more than sufficient.

What's Still Not Confirmed

Battery chemistry — Tesla has not publicly specified cell chemistry for either Semi trim. Given Tesla's use of 4680 cells in other products, they're the most likely candidate, but this hasn't been officially confirmed for the Semi.
Autonomous hardware spec — Both trims are described as "designed for autonomy" with the camera hardware that runs FSD on Tesla's passenger vehicles. A Tesla Semi was spotted with ground truth validation equipment in California earlier this year — the first signal that Semi-specific FSD training is actively underway. Sleeper configuration — Not available in either current trim. The Semi is designed for regional freight, not cross-country overnight hauls. This aligns with every real-world deployment so far — port drayage, dedicated regional, and last-mile distribution.
